9 Days Bale Mountain National Park Trekking
Itinerary
Day 01 : Drive Addis Ababa – Goba (250 kms 6 – 7 hrs drive)
This day after breakfast Drive from Addis to the Bale Mountains National Park. Arrive at the park headquarters in the afternoon, in time for a leisurely afternoon hike, possibly spotting two endemic mammals that frequent the area: Menelik’s Bushbuck and the Mountain Nyala. Birds in this area include the Blue-Winged Goose, the Spot-Breasted Lapwing, the Abyssinian Long Claw, the Wattled Ibis, the Black-Headed Siskin, Rouget’s Rail, and numerous other species.

Day 02 Trekking Bale Mountains National Park
After breakfast Starting from Dinsho, trek to Adelay via the Geysay Valley and the Web River, viewing the Web waterfall along the way. During the hike, there will be wonderful chances to see the Mountain Nyala, Menelik’s Bushbuck, Bohor Reedbuck, and possibly Colobus Monkeys. Trekking will take 4 – 5 hours.

Day 03 Trekking Bale Mountains National Park
After breakfast Trek to Wasama through a beautiful landscape with stunning views. Pass through Mararo Valley where the Lammergeyer and Verraux Eagles keep nests. There will also be a chance a seeing the Ethiopian Wolf and other species of birds. Around 7 – 8 hours of trekking.

Day 04 Trekking Bale Mountains National Park
After breakfast Start the day by hiking up Mt. Wasama (4200m) and then continue down into the Worgona Valley. Falcons, raptors, and possibly the Ethiopian Wolf will be visible. End the day at Lake Gebre Gurracha, meaning “black lake” in the Oromic language. Trekking will take 7-8 hours.

Day 05 Sanetti Plateau
After breakfast Take a short trek from Gebre Gurracha up to the Sanetti Plateau to meet vehicles. Explore the Sanetti Plateau by car. This is the best place in Ethiopia to view the Ethiopian wolf.

Day 06 Harenna Forest
After breakfast Drive to the Harenna Forest. This is in the southern end of the park and holds a unique variety of vegetation. The Harenna Escarpment towers 2000m above the edge of the forest and provides stunning views. Return to Goba for the night.

Day 07: Drive Goba – Wendo Genet-Yirgalem
This day after breakfast Leaving Goba, drive to Wendo Genet for having some relaxation at the natural spring water and you will see some birds later after lunch drive to Yirgalem passing through a number of coffee and various fruit cultivating towns with splendid greenery everywhere. Proceed towards the Aregash Lodge. This loge is a natural retreat of astounding beauty and harmony. The Bamboo thatched Tukuls consider the traditional Sidama villages nearby. The nearby forest is home for diverse mammals and birds. The coffee plantation and the nightly visit of hyenas are further attractions to be found in the surrounding area. Overnight in Yirgalem.
Day 08: Drive Yirgalem –Awassa- Langano
After having your breakfast you will drive southwards to THE TOWN OF Awassa then you will have a fish market tours at Lake Awassa then take a boat tours to see the Hippo later drive to Langano. Proceed towards the Lake Langano. The lake is a place to enjoy water activities. Overnight in Langano
Day 09: Drive Yirgalem – Addis – Departure
After breakfast, drive to Addis En route visit Lake Ziway the largest of the upper Rift Valley lakes with an area of 400 sq. km. Its shores are creased with water lilies, breeding place for different Ethiopian. sightseeing en route.
In the evening attend a folkloric dinner where you will have a chance to taste several national dishes and watch dances of the various ethnic groups of Ethiopia. The traditional coffee ceremony will also be served. Later you will be transferred to the airport for your departure.
