Full Day Hiking Tours To Mount Wechecha & Wechecha Maryam Church
Itinerary
Mount Wechecha is located at a distance of 15km South West of Addis Ababa. It is one of the highest peaks around Addis Ababa with the area reaching as high as 3000m above sea level. The mountain is accessible to the top for mountain hikers on foot or by Car.
The mountain provides the following considerable attractions: excellent panoramic view of the surrounding area including Addis Ababa & the oldest Wechecha St Marry churches more than 100 years old, which has a repository of old manuscripts of religious significance written on parchment, known as ‘Birana’. The annual Maryam festival is held on Sep 21 in EC giving the best opportunity to see a religious as well as traditional dance and the folk culture at the eventful ceremony; the clear and supposedly holy water of its top, and diverse vegetation that covers a natural densely forest of the Wechcha Mountains
After hiking Mount Wechcha we will be heading to the small villages of Wechcha to visit the small rivers of Gerado and its surrounding landscapes & we will show you some grass houses of the local Oromo people & you will get an experience of making the local drinks like coffee, Tella, Injera.
Later we will be heading to our vehicles to be transferred to our hotels in Addis Ababa or airports
