4-Day South Omo Valley Cultural Discovery Tour

Day 1: Arba Minch – Konso – Jinka

• Morning departure from Arba Minch, heading south through scenic highland and lowland landscapes.

• Stop at Konso (UNESCO Cultural Heritage Site) to explore:

  • Terraced farming systems

  • Waga stone grave markers

  • Traditional Konso villages and cultural hall

• Continue the drive to Jinka, the administrative hub of South Omo.

• Optional visit to the South Omo Research Center & Museum.

• Overnight in Jinka (lodge or eco-lodge).

Day 2: Jinka – Mago National Park – Mursi Village – Turmi

• Early morning excursion into Mago National Park, rich in savannah landscapes.

• Visit the Mursi tribe, known for their dramatic lip plates and body scarification.

• Learn about Mursi customs and traditions with local guides.

• Continue to Turmi, the homeland of the Hamar people.

• Evening walk in Turmi village or relax at your lodge.

• Overnight in Turmi (lodge or camp).

Day 3: Turmi – Omorate – Dassanech Tribe – Hamar Culture Experience

• Morning drive to Omorate, near the Omo River.

• Cross the river by traditional wooden canoe to visit the Dassanech tribe, semi-nomadic people living in dome-shaped huts.

• Return to Turmi for lunch.

• Afternoon: Experience Hamar cultural life or, if available, witness a Bull Jumping Ceremony – an initiation rite for young Hamar men.

• Overnight in Turmi.

Day 4: Turmi – Arbore – Arba Minch

• Drive north via Arbore, known for their decorative hairstyles and vibrant dress.

• Visit an Arbore village for a short cultural interaction and photo opportunity.

• Continue scenic drive back to Arba Minch, arriving late afternoon or early evening.

• Tour ends with drop-off at hotel or airport.
