Day 1: Fly Addis Ababa to Lalibela

After breakfast, you will be transferred to the airport for your flight to Lalibela. Upon arrival, you will be met and transferred to your hotel.

After lunch, you will visit the first group of seven rock-hewn churches, positioned one behind the other in rock cradles: Bet Golgotha, Bet Mika’el, Bet Maryam, Bet Meskel, Bet Danagl, and Bet Medhane Alem. Bet Medhane Alem, the largest of them all, is built like a Greek temple. Its stone floor, polished by countless visitors over time, reflects shafts of light from apertures high in the walls. In one corner are three empty graves, symbolically dug for the biblical patriarchs Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

Later, you will visit the second group of rock churches, including Bet Giyorgis—possibly the most elegant of all the Lalibela churches. It lies somewhat isolated on a sloping rock terrace in the southwestern part of the village.

Overnight: Maribela Hotel, Lalibela

Day 2: Fly Lalibela to Addis Ababa

After breakfast, you will visit the remaining rock-hewn churches of Lalibela: Bete Gabriel, Bete Marqorios, Bete Emmanuel, and Bete Aba Libanos.

Later, you will be transferred to the airport for your flight back to Addis Ababa.
